The Avatr 15 is a new mid-size electric SUV set to be launched in the second half of 2024 by Avatr, a Chinese automaker backed by Changan, Huawei, and CATL.
The Avatr 15 is positioned directly against the Tesla Model Y, a dominant force in the electric SUV market. With a length of around 4,750 mm (187 inches), it falls squarely in the mid-size SUV category, competing with other Chinese rivals like the Xpeng G6 and BYD Song Plus.
The car appears to embrace a sleek and modern aesthetic that complements Avatr’s existing lineup. Headlights might be an evolution of the Avatr 11’s design, with taillights potentially drawing inspiration from the Avatr 12. Tech-forward features like camera replacements for traditional side mirrors and retractable door handles hint at a focus on innovation.
Avatr goes a step further by offering a choice between two powertrain options: extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) and battery electric vehicle (BEV). This caters to a wider range of drivers, particularly those who might experience range anxiety or lack access to convenient charging stations. The EREV provides a gasoline engine that acts as a generator to extend the battery’s range, while a BEV relies solely on electric power.
