The new VW California, also known as the VW Multivan T7 California, isn’t exactly new anymore (it was introduced in August 2023), but it’s definitely a revamped camper van worth mentioning in car news.
Built on the Volkswagen Group MQB platform, this is a first for the California. It comes with a 1.4-liter 215 horsepower plug-in hybrid engine, allowing for electric driving and quieter campsite operation. It also offers other engine options like a 2-liter diesel and a 1.5 and 2-liter petrol engine.
The new California is 5,173 mm long by 1,941 mm wide,1,990 mm tall and wheelbase is 3,000 mm. It boasts a modern take on the classic camper van design. It retains the familiar boxy silhouette but with sleeker lines and a more contemporary feel. Key features on the outside include a functional pop-up roof for extra sleeping space, two sliding doors on opposite sides for easy entry and ventilation, and an optional awning for creating shade. LED headlights and taillights enhance visibility, while a variety of colors lets you personalize your adventure mobile.
Inside the VW California, it’s all about easy living on the road. Seats turn into a social area or fold flat for sleeping, with a comfy pop-up roof bed on top. Kitchens range from simple to gourmet, depending on the trim. Tech keeps you charged and lets you control the camper with a touchscreen (on some models). It’s like a Swiss Army knife of camper vans – adaptable and ready for anything.
