The BYD Shark is a brand new plug-in hybrid ute (pickup truck) that’s set to shake things up in the mid-size truck market, starts at $53,427 USD.
BYD Shark has the largest body size and it measures 5,457 mm long, 1,971 mm wide, and 1,925 mm tall. It exudes toughness. A bold grille, LED headlights, and black cladding dominate the front. Roof rails and a chase bar hint at off-road prowess. Black pillars and 18-inch wheels complete the look. Borrowing from Ford, the rear features vertical taillights (LED) and a central step in the bumper.
The BYD Shark is a hybrid powerhouse. Its 1.5L turbo engine and electric motors combine for 320kW, launching it from 0-100km/h in 5.7 seconds. Expect a lower electric range than the claimed 100km, but it offers 7.5L/100km fuel consumption and a total range of 840km. It also can haul and tow a decent amount of cargo. It can handle a payload of up to 835 kg in the truck bed and tow up to 2,500 kg.
The Shark is packed with technology, featuring a 12.8-inch infotainment touchscreen, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a 360-degree camera system, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, voice recognition technology, karaoke function and a head-up display. It also has a handy NFC key card and 50W supports wireless phone charging. An interesting feature is the vehicle-to-load technology, which allows you to use the Shark’s battery to power appliances while camping.
