The BYD Seal U DM-I is making waves as the first plug-in hybrid vehicle (PHEV) from BYD to hit the European market this summer. This SUV is designed to compete with popular models like the Volkswagen Tiguan, Ford Kuga, and Toyota RAV4.
The Seal U DM-I offers a choice of three powertrains to suit different needs:

Boost: This base version features a 1.5-liter naturally-aspirated engine paired with a 195 horsepower electric motor for a combined output of 215 horsepower and an electric-only range of up to 80 kilometers (WLTP).

Comfort (coming later in 2024): This trim steps up the electric range with a larger 26.6 kWh battery, enabling up to 125 kilometers of pure electric driving with the same 1.5-liter engine and electric motor combination.

Design: The top-of-the-line option boasts all-wheel drive thanks to an additional rear electric motor. It uses a turbocharged version of the 1.5-liter engine for more power (319 horsepower) but has a slightly lower electric-only range of 70 kilometers (WLTP) due to the smaller 18.3 kWh battery.
Despite the variations in electric range, the BYD Seal U DM-I shines in total driving range thanks to the combination of electric and gasoline power. The Boost version can achieve a WLTP range of up to 1,080 kilometers, while the Design boasts a staggering 870 kilometers (WLTP). While the claimed WLTP fuel consumption figures are very impressive, starting at just 0.9 L/100 km for the Boost version.
The BYD Seal U DM-I follows the design language of its electric sibling, the BYD Seal sedan. It features a sleek and modern design with a few unique touches:
- Slender LED headlights with a lower C-shaped section for the daytime running lights.
- A set of horizontal strakes that span the lower bumper, giving it a wider and taller stance.
