To mark 20 years since the iconic MC12, Maserati is releasing two limited-edition versions (only 20 of each) of their current supercar, the MC20. These special editions are named Icona and Leggenda (Italian for “Icon” and “Legend”). The price hasn’t been revealed yet.
Both the MC12 and the MC20 share some key characteristics:
- Mid-engined layout: The engine sits in the middle of the car for better weight distribution and handling.
- Carbon fiber tub: A lightweight and extremely rigid structure that forms the core of the car.
- Powerful Engine: Both cars boast an impressive 621 horsepower, but the MC20 achieves this with a smaller, twin-turbocharged V6 engine compared to the MC12’s naturally-aspirated V12.
The MC20 Icona pays tribute to the original MC12 Stradale with a striking blue and white exterior. The top half is painted in a matte white finish called “Icona Bianco Audace,” while the lower part is adorned with contrasting blue stripes (“Blu Stradale”). The wheels are chrome-plated and feature the Maserati trident logo. Blue brake calipers add a pop of color. To further the connection to the MC12, Maserati included an Italian flag on the side and a carbon fiber engine cover.
Maseratis special edition MC20 Icona and Leggenda boast luxurious interiors courtesy of the Fuoriserie program. Passengers are held snug by lightweight, high-performance monocoque racing seats. A premium Sonus Faber sound system delivers immersive audio, while advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) like automatic emergency braking and lane departure warning provide an extra layer of safety. For navigating tricky inclines, a nose lift function raises the front of the car. To complement the luxurious feel, interior components are crafted from lightweight and strong carbon fiber. The Icona features a striking black and blue theme, while the Leggenda opts for a sophisticated all-black look. Both special editions proudly display their names on the headrests and a special badge under the hood.
