Citroen recently unveiled the internal combustion engine (ICE) and mild hybrid versions of their all-new Citroen C3, following the earlier debut of the fully electric e-C3. This fourth-generation C3 ditches the hatchback look for a more popular crossover design with increased ground clearance. Starting at $16,275, it remains competitively priced, even undercutting its predecessor.
C3 comes with two engine options:
- 1.2L Gasoline Engine: This base option offers a familiar and affordable gasoline engine.
- Mild Hybrid “Hybrid 100”: This version utilizes the same 1.2L engine but gets a boost in efficiency with a 48-volt lithium-ion battery and an electric motor integrated into the new ë-DCS6 dual-clutch automatic gearbox. This allows for short bursts of electric power and increased fuel economy.
This new C3 is built on the modular Smart Car platform, which allows for the future possibility of a full-hybrid or even a plug-in hybrid option.
The new Citroen C3 with ICE and mild hybrid options seems like a strategic move to target a wider audience. It offers affordability and practicality, along with a more efficient option for eco-conscious drivers who aren’t quite ready to go fully electric. Deliveries for the standard engine version are expected in summer 2024, with the Hybrid 100 following by the end of the year.
